Number Twelve is responsible for Youth Services in the Waitomo and Ōtorohanga District helping young people aged between 16-19 access education, training, or work-based learning.
We support young people Not In Education Employment or Training (NEET) or who are receiving Work and Income Youth Payment (YP) or Young Parent Payment (YPP).
Our mahi is to mentor the young person in good decision making by working together to create individual goal plans, connecting them with education and training opportunities and facilitating budgeting, parenting and work readiness workshops.
Support can look like
- Identifying achievable goals
- Providing education and training opportunities
- Learning how to budget and manage your money
- Finding childcare that fits you and your child’s needs
- Enrolling with a Primary Health Care Organisation (PHO) – doctor
- Finding a Well Child provider such as Plunket or Whanau Ora
- Gaining parenting skills and meeting other young parents
- Links to other services you or your family may need
- Car licensing
- Work readiness skill and employment opportunities
- Introduce you to new people and new environments

How to apply
To apply for a Youth Payment (YP) or a Young Parent Payment (YPP) benefit you must apply to Work and Income.
Your application will be sent to the Youth Service Support Unit for approval, and from there you will be referred to us as your Youth Service Provider.
If your application is approved, you’ll be assigned a Youth Coach who will support you and help you to meet your payment obligations.
